About the Art:

I walked away from this evening completely humbled. Bristlecone Pine's are one of the oldest living organisms on this earth. The oldest one is nearly 5,000 years old and this one sits 10,000 ft above sea level. Spending the night with this old timer was like connecting with the past in a way that I never thought possible. Prior to arriving, I wondered what it would feel like to stand before this giant. Spending time with a sentient that has stood watch over the Sierra for several millennia.

When I arrived, I couldn't help but focus on the ghoulish branches as they twisted out and away into the sky. It leans into the hillside with a panoramic view of the Owens Valley and the Eastern Sierra Nevada. I imagined others who have stood before the tree like myself and the environmental changes it's experienced. As dusk arrived and the sky darkened, the sky stole the show.

It's said that looking to the stars is the same as looking into the past. Why? Because of the thousands of years it takes for the light to travel to your eyes. Standing before this historic Bristlecone Pine tree and the Milky Way felt like the closest thing to time travel.
