About the Image:

A warm summer day in the Sierra Nevadas as a shower of light illuminates the peaks and the golden hillsides minutes before the sun begins to set.

There's a strange force that draws my gaze upwards when I'm among these giants. Frigid temperatures, violent thunderstorms, ravenous wildfires...the mountain remains calm, cool, and collected. I'm reminded of all the moments in my life where I reacted instead of responded. The moments where people were ice cold to me, taken advantage of my good will, or I was in the path of their destruction. In the moments where my patience is tested, I remind myself of this Japanese proverb...

"Though the wind blows, the mountain does not move."
